The Songjiang Quarry Resort, by Atkins Architects

A leisure resort located in the Songjiang district near to Shanghai, which includes a five-star luxury hotel, a swimming pool, restaurants, cafes and sport facilities.
This resort was inspired by the natural water and landscape features. Built into an abandonned quarry, the hotel become integrated into this very special environment. It shows a façade running on from the rock face of 100 metres of depth, using green roofings and incorporating the existing rock face with it waterfalls and vegetation.
The natural water is a theme exploited both functionaly and visually. Geothermal heat generates electricity and heaten (solar energy is included as well). A transparent glass ‘waterfall’ is used as a central vertical circulation and replicates the natural waterfalls on the existing quarry. Two levels are located under water, with a restaurant and guestrooms, facing a hudge aquarium.
The hotel is including in the projet leads by Atkins of the new city Songjiang Garden City on the outskirts of Shangai.

Un complexe de loisir situé dans le district de Songjiang près de Shangai, comprenant un hotel 5 étoiles, piscine, restaurants, cafés et installations sportives.
Ce complexe a été inspiré par l'élément eau et les spécificités du paysage. Construit dans une carrière abandonnée, l'hôtel s'intègre à cet environnement particulier. Il présente une façade dans le prolongement de la paroi d'une profondeur de 100 mètres, utilise des toits verts et incorpore la paroi de pierre existante avec ses cascades et végétations.
L'eau est un thème suivi à la fois fonctionnellement et visuellement. La chaleur géothermique est exploitée pour produire électricité et chauffage (l'énergie solaire est aussi utilisée). Une "cascade" de verre transparent est utilisée comme circulation verticale et reproduit les cascades existantes de la carrière. Deux niveau sont immergés, avec un restaurant et des salles faisant face à un immense aquarium.
L'hôtel est inclus dans le projet plus vaste mené par par Atkins de la nouvelle ville Songjiang Garden City dans la banlieue de Shanghai.
